From movies that released to shows that are available to stream, the month of April saw a great variety of content. 1. J Baby 


Inspired by true events, J Baby revolves around two sons Senthil and Shankar who are on a voyage to West Bengal to find their missing mother, J Baby. The movie is produced by P.A. Ranjith’s Neelam production and is written and directed by Suresh Mari. Urvashi plays the role of J Baby, Lollu Shaba Maaran and Attakathi Dinesh play the role of her two sons. The movie weaves a heartfelt tale of motherhood and kinship, Urvashi was critically applauded for her versatile delivery.

2. Premalu

Premalu is perhaps the hotly anticipated OTT release of this week. The movie garnered high praise from both its critics and the audience for its light-hearted humor and the way it captured the essence of youth, love, and adulting. The story predominately revolves around Sachin, a recent college graduate, Reenu, an IT employee living in Hyderabad, and their budding romance. The movie is written and directed by Girish A.D.  and has an ensemble cast including Naseln.K.Gafoor, Mamitha Baiju, Sangeeth Prathap, Shyam Mohan, and Akhila Bhargavan.

3. Laapata Ladies

Directed by Kiran Rao, the movie stars newcomers Sparsh Srivastava, Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta and Ravi Kishan in the lead roles. This movie is a must-watch, it’s a wholesome film that will give you perspective, hope and happiness. Deepa marries Phool and they are headed back to his home after the wedding. They are seated in a compartment that has two other newlywed couples also in it, all brides wearing the same attire with a long veil( ghoonghat) covering their faces. What happens when Deepak deboards the train with the wrong bride? This story has brilliant performers, heart-warming dialogues and a story that will empower many women.

4. Amar Singh Chamkila

Inspired by the life of legendary Punjabi singer Amar Singh, the movie follows the journey of the singer who was brutally killed at the age of 27 in an assassination along with his wife and two other band members. The movie is directed by Imtiaz Ali, who is known for his timeless romcoms and the way he approaches his subjects’ emotional depth and A.R.R. has done the music score. The duo is joining hands again after 9 years for Amar Singh Chamkila, which is yet another reason to watch the film. The movie has an ensemble cast including Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles and Samuel John, Anjum Batra, Anurag Arora, and Nisha Bano in supporting roles

5. Baby Reindeer

Based on a true story, Baby Reindeer is a must-watch series for its brilliant storytelling and gripping narrative. Trigger Warning should be given before each episode in this one, since you will be taken by surprise. It is an intense watch, but if you are fond of the thriller-crime genre, then this one is unmissable. Donny is an aspiring stand-up comic who is stalked by a woman named  Martha. It is as unnerving as it is funny, what’s Martha’s story? Does Donny have a soft corner for his stalker? The series is a deep dive into human emotions, trauma, ambition, etc.

6. She Said

Everyone remembers the sensational ‘Me Too’ movement, it was a redefining moment in global history. This movie is the story of 2 women, Megan Twohey and Jodi Cantor who worked relentlessly to get the story out in the world. The movie tracks the story of women who were sexually abused by the movie producer film producer Harvey Weinstein and how it was covered up by his company. This particular case gave rise to the Me Too movement where millions of women came forward and narrated their traumatic experience of workplace sexual harassment.

7. Dead Boy Detectives

A funny-horror series that’s interesting to watch, Dead Boy Detectives is the story of two ghosts who are solving mysteries for their fellow ghosts. It has its jump scares but it’s a quirky, fun genre that can be binge-watched over a weekend. What happens when there is a new joiner to their team? Do the supernatural beings agree with these boys’s ways? Well, these questions will be answered when you watch the series.

8. Ripley

Academy Award winner Andrew Scoot plays Tom Ripley, a series based on the book by  Patricia Highsmith. Tom Ripley is a con man, he is charming, handsome, wicked, intelligent, and yet, an enigma. When he is hired for his service by a wealthy man to convince his prodigal son to return home, he hatches a plan. He is enamored by the wealth, status and lifestyle and ends up stealing the identity of the son, Dickie Greenleaf.

9. Gaami

 Gaami is a Telugu adventure thriller written by Vidyadhar Kagita, an epic adventure thriller anthology taking place around three different parties: Shankar, an amnesiac Aghora on a journey to find Maalipatram, a cure for his fear of human touch, a terminally ill Durga and her daughter running away the grasp of evil village men, CT-333, a medical subject under captive in C.A.T, an illegal medical facility. How the trio’s paths collide and how they save each other out of their predicament is the rest of the story.  The movie’s cast includes Vishwak Sen, Chandini Chowdary Abhinaya, Harika Pedda Dayanand Reddy, Mohammad Samad, and Shanti Rao.

10. What Jennifer did

What Jennifer did is a true crime documentary revolving around Jennifer Hann and her Vietnamese immigrant family. The story follows a horrendous incident that took place at the Hann residency in the spring of 2010 when a young Jennifer called 911 to report her parents being shot by three unknown intruders. Jennifers’ father’s testimony after his recovery from a brief coma shifted the entire direction of the case, revealing spine-chilling truths. To find out what happened watch the series this weekend.
