Every year the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) releases the statistics of crimes recorded across the country. For 2015, Chennai has been declared the safest city in the country recording the least number of crimes among the metro cities. Statistics show that as many as 35,576 crimes were reported in Bengaluru after New Delhi (1.73 lakh cases), Mumbai (42,940), Kolkata (23,990) and Hyderabad (16,965).
