Students of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB), a group of schools in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, called out a teacher named Rajagopalan for sexually harassing, passing inappropriate comments and abusing them. This led to an outburst in all social media platforms. Earlier the management said legal actions will be taken and now it has announced an immediate suspension for Rajagopalan, the accused teacher.
Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said that he has asked officials from the School Education Department to look into the allegations.
“The CEO under whose jurisdiction the school comes has enquired with the school management about the allegations. The school has told us that they will be setting up a committee to look into the issue and inform us about it. Appropriate action will be taken,” he said.
When asked about the allegations against the school, that they have ignored the complaints raised in the past by students the minister said the school has refuted these allegations. “However, if we find out that past complaints have been neglected, we will take action,” he added.
Following this, students from various schools like Chettinad Vidyashram, Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Sushil Hari International Residential School, Julia Rexi (Spartan Schools), Velammal Matric, St. Patricks and a lot more are opening up to people in Instagram. Alumni as well as present students narrate their experiences, the sexual harassments and abuses they’ve gone through these years.

An Instagram account called ‘youfriendlyschoolers’ has been created for students to share the trauma they faced in school.
The students are been continuously voicing out and is exposing their teachers and school managements. This issue which was initially about PSBB and now it’s like all over Tamil Nadu. Almost all the girls who went to school seem to have faced sexual abuses and harassments and what’s shocking is that students continue to face these harassments in online classes too.
