With a career spanning twenty years and over sixty films, it’s safe to say that Trisha Krishnan better known as Trisha is a reigning star. The actress, model, animal rights activist is a household name in Tamil Nadu.
Recognised for both her looks and talents, she is one of the few actors who has worked with all the big name directors and actors in the Tamil industry. She also has a very successful career in the Telugu film industry which is seen through her various best actor awards that she won for her roles in movies like Varsham, Nuvvostanante Nennoddantana, Aadavari Matalaku Arthale Verule.
To add another feather to her cap Trisha has also acted in a Bollywood film khatta meetha and a Kannada film power. Although both the films weren’t superhit box office successes, Trishas role did not go unnoticed.
As the actor turns a year older let’s take a look at her impressive career where she’s ventured into various roles and genres.
Trisha started her career with an uncredited role in the superhit Prashanth and Simran starrer movie Jodi. After Jodi, Trisha played the lead role in mounam pesiyadhe and manasellam, both the films garnered mixed reviews from critics and did not succeed in the box office. However, her performance did not go unnoticed.
The year 2003 can be said as the milestone in Trisha’s career. The actress had five Tamil films that released in the same year. Her claim to fame came with Saamy starring Vikram and directed by Hari. Her adorable role as a soft spoken college girl was critically praised.
Her initial unreleased first film Lesa Lesa was also released in 2003, unsurprisingly the film received positive reviews for her performance. The year also saw two commercial failures, Alai and Ennaku 20 Unakku 18 although the latter did get noticed for its music and visuals.
The year 2004 marked trishas entry into the Telugu film industry. Her role as Shailaja in the box office success movie Varsham landed her the best actress award. The same year saw her act in the super hit Tamil film Ghilli opposite actor Vijay, her role as a helpless girl was portrayed authentically, although some felt her performance was overshadowed by Vijay and Prakash Raj’s roles ,she still received praise. In the same year she played a small role in Mani Ratnams critically acclaimed Aayutha Ezhuthu where she acted along with Madhavan,Suriya and Siddharth.
Trisha had twelve releases in the following two years. While eleven of the movies saw her portraying minor roles, the Telugu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, Prabhu Devas directorial debut, saw her and Siddharth playing the lead. The film was critically praised and helped Trisha secure various awards.
Her sole Tamil release in 2006, unakkum enakkum, the remake of her Telugu film Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, opposite Jayam Ravi was a smashing hit. Her portrayal as a comical village girl received critical praise and the film still remains a family entertainer to this day.
In 2007 Trisha acted in two films one in Tamil and the other in Telugu respectively. She acted in director Selvarghavans first Telugu venture opposite Venkatesh and the film received excellent response as a family entertainer. While her Tamil film Kireedam opposite actor Ajith became a huge success.
The year saw 2008 Radhamohan film Abhiyum Naanum was a huge success. The movie focused on the father-daughter bond of a small family in a small town and had Trisha and Prakash Raj playing the lead roles. The family entertainer stirred the hearts of the audience and soon became a must watch. She faced back to back hits in the Telugu industry the same year with Bujjigadu opposite Prabhas and King along with Akkineni Nagarjuna.
Her 2009 films Sarvam in Tamil opposite actor Arya and Sankham in Telugu did not do well. However, the release of her smashing commercial success in 2010, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa saw her portray a Christian Malayali girl living in Chennai. The film, directed by Gautham Menon, saw her play the lead role opposite actor Simbu. The film still holds a special place in many people’s hearts and is a love icon for many. The dialogues from the film remain popular even today.
The year 2010 also marked her Bollywood debut opposite Akshay Kumar in the film Khatta Meetha. The film received mixed reviews but her performance was praised. She also starred opposite Kamal Hassan in the movie Manmadan Ambu and had one Telugu release the same year, Namo venkatesa.
Trisha had four films in the years 2012,13. Her Telugu films saw her being paired with Actor Venkatesh and Jr.NTR. She starred opposite Vishal in the film Samar and in the romantic comedy Endrendum Punnagai opposite Jiiva.
The year 2014 marked her venture into the Kannada film industry with the movie power, while she took a year long hiatus from the Tamil and Telugu industry. She had five releases in the year 2015 where she starred opposite Kamal Hassan,Ajith and Jayam Ravi respectively.
In the year 2016 she acted in her first horror film, Aranmanai 2 where she shared screen space with Sundar C,Siddharth,Hansika and Kovai Sarala among others. She also played a villainous role in the political action film Kodi opposite Danush and was critically praised for her performance.
In 2018, Trisha made her Malayalam debut opposite Nivin Paula with the film Hey Jude where she portrayed a person with bipolar disorder. The same year saw her starring in the superhit film ‘96 opposite Vijay Sethupathi. The film was a smashing success and led a historical run in the box office. Her sole release in 2019 was the film Petta opposite superstar Rajinikanth.
With six upcoming projects it’s clear that Trisha has no plans of taking a break and is all set to break barriers with her conventional and unconventional roles.
