The stage was set, and the red carpet rolled out at the Chennai Trade Center on September 21st, 2024, for a night to remember. The night was hosted by Bhavna Balakrishnan and Vishnu Hariharan who set the stage truly on fire with their quick wit and their energy. Honouring outstanding women such as Nigar Shaji, Kalpana Shankar, Thulasimathi, Vaishnavi, Major Seeta Shelke, Singer Jensy Anthony, Archana Chandoke and Priyanka Mohan, the night was a true celebration of women’s power.
Our co-founders Ms Bina Sujit and Mr Sujit Kumar are the pillars behind the splendid event, their vision and leadership are the driving forces behind the success of the grand Achievers Awards. They ensure that the platform continues to evolve with the changing times while staying true to its core values of celebrating women.
Nigar Shaji – Excellence in Science
The award for ‘Excellence in Science’ was presented to Ms Nigar Shaji, the ISRO scientist behind Aditya-L1, India’s first solar observatory by the talented actress Aishwarya Rajesh. Nigar Shaji led the mission to a successful halo orbit around the Sun-Earth L1 point, marking a major milestone in India’s space journey. A true visionary and inspiration, her simplicity, grace and humility were eminent from her aura on stage.
Dr Kalpana Sankar – Excellence in Social Service
Dr. Kalpana Sankar is a pioneering social entrepreneur and the founder of Hand in Hand India, an NGO that has uplifted nearly 4 million women through microfinance, education, and sustainable development. She was accompanied by her daughter and granddaughter who came to show support. The award was presented to her by film director Vignesh Karthick and Mr Ramamurthy, Senior General Manager, Lia Agarbatthigal.
Thulasimathi – Excellence in Sports
Thulasimathi Murugesan, a Paralympic badminton star who won a silver medal at the Paris Paralympic was our awardee for Excellence in Sports. Born with a congenital abnormality in her left hand, her journey has been one of resilience and determination. Accompanied by her family, the night was made more special when Shanthanu presented the award to her on stage.
Vaishvani – Special Recognition
Vaishnavi, affectionately known as ‘Yoga Vaishnavi’ was the next awardee for the night at the JFW Achievers Awards 2024. With six Guinness World Records and numerous national and international medals, she has earned the title of India’s ‘Rubber Band Girl’ for her exceptional flexibility. The award was presented to her by the famous internet personality, Dr Pal Manickam.
Major Seeta Shelka – Excellence in Public Service
Our next awardee was Major Seeta Shelke, an army officer who led her team in constructing a 190 ft Bailey bridge in just 36 hours during the Wayanad landslide rescue this year. The Excellence in Public Service award was presented to her by Actor Jayaram who made the moment even more special by saying a few lines thanking her and the Indian army for their valiant efforts.
Jensy- Lifetime Achievement
With over 90 songs, including iconic hits like “En Vaanilae,” her melodies have touched generations and for that, Singer Jensy was presented the Award for Lifetime Achievement by Poornima Bhagyaraj. Jensy’s remarkable musical journey spans over four decades, beginning at age 12 when her unique voice caught the attention of composer Ilaiyaraaja.
Archana Chandhoke – Excellence in TV Entertainment
Archana Chandhoke is a beloved figure in Tamil television, and this year, she marked 25 years in the industry. For her outstanding dedication to work and her consistency in staying at the top, JFW presented her with the Award for Excellence in TV Entertainment. She received the award from Deepa Venkat and her close friend Abhirami. When Archana came on stage, she brought with her an insane amount of energy, she shared her life experiences, got nostalgic and emotional and just commanded the room and audience like no other.
Priyanka Mohan – Sensation of the year
Priyanka Mohan looked stunning when she came to receive her award for Sensation of the year at the JFW Achievers Awards. Her journey is of true hard work and passion, and she continues to be a rising star in the South. The award was presented to her by Abhirami and Mr Jithendra Vummidi, Managing Partner at VBJ. The stage was set ablaze when young girls surprised her by dancing to her latest song, Golden Sparrow and she quickly joined them and just electrified the entire hall!
