At the JFW Movie Awards 2024, we celebrate the women who are a part of the tapestry of cinema, from Best Actress in a Lead role to Best Dubbing Artist, the night brings together the best of the best from Tamil Cinema. The 10 categories include Best Actress in an OTT Series, Best Supporting Actress, Best Debutante, Best Woman-Led Film, Best Dubbing Artist, Best Singer, Best Costume Designer and Best Director of a Woman-Led Film. In addition to the aforementioned categories, we also have special mentions and critics’ choice awards to celebrate the outstanding contributions of the artists and technicians who work behind the camera.
This year, films like Goodnight, Farhana, The Road and Chithha bagged several nominations in different categories. For our very first list of nominees in the category, Best Actress in a lead role, we have Trisha for Leo, Meetha Raghunath for Goodnight, Bhavani Sre for Viduthalai, Dushara Vijayan for Aneethi, Rashmika Mandana for Varisu and Aparna Das for Dada. Under the category, Best Actress in an OTT series, we have Abi Nakshatra for Ayali, Wamiqa Gabbi for Modern Love Chennai, Ritu Varma for Modern Love Chennai, Vani Bhojan for Sengalam and Lakshmi for Sweet Karam Coffee. For Best Supporting Actress, we have Nadiya for LGM, Abarnathi for Irugapatru, Raichal Rebecca for Goodnight, Ammu Abhirami for Kannagi, Deepa Shankar for Soppana Sundari and Mullaiyarasi for Are You OK Baby?.
This time for best women-led films, we have nominated Annapoorani, Kannagi, Farhana, The Road and The Great Indian Kitchen and the leading actresses namely Nayanthara, Keerthi Pandian, Aishwarya Rajesh, Trisha and Nimisha Sajayan have been nominated for the Best Actress in a woman-led film.
The Best Singer nominees this year include Dhee for Mamadurai from Jigarthanda Double X, Shakthisree Gopalan for Aga Naga from Ponniyin Selvan 2, Aditi Shankar for Vannarapettayile from Maaveeran, Karthika Vaidyanathan for Kangal Edho from Chithha, Ananya Bhat for Kaatu Malli from Viduthalai 1 and Shweta Mohan for Vaa Vaathi from Vaathi. The next set of nominees for the Best Debutante is Nimisha Sajayan for Chithha, Saniya Iyappan for Irugaptru, Preethi Asrani for Ayothi and Malavika Manoj for Joe.
For the costume designer category, we have Eka Lakhani for Ponniyin Selvan 2, Pallavi Singh for Leo, Poornima Ramasamy for LGM, and Shimona Stalin for Kolai. The Best Dubbing Artist’s Nominees are Deepa Venkat for Annapoorani, Chinmayi Sripada for Leo, and Krithika Nelson for The Road.
