According to the police, the 14-year-old Jayasree lived with her father in a small house in the village of Sirumadurai in the district of Villupuram. The victim’s father, Jayabal owns a small shop in the locality. On Sunday, Murugan had come Jayabals house to ask him to open his shop. As Jayabal was not at home Jayasree refused to open the shop by herself, she asked Murugan to speak to her father. Murugan who was said to be in an inebriated state had supposedly left the spot in a huff.
A police officer said that a few hours later, neighbours saw smoke coming out of the hi sue and rushed to check the source. Upon arriving at the house they discovered an ablazed Jayasree with both her hands tied. The neighbours immediately poured water to seize the fire and rushed her to the Villupuram medical college hospital for treatment.
Speaking about the accused’s previous history of animosity,Jayakumar told the newsminute, “Seven years ago, Murugan and his group of friends had chopped off Jayabal’s uncle’s arm and they were all arrested. They came out on bail. Murugan and Jayabal are relatives. There is also a land-related tussle between the two groups,”
Based on the statement given by the victim to the magistrate, Murugan and Yasagan alias Kaliyaperumal who had tied her hands, poured petrol on her and set her on fire. Based on this statement the police took action and arrested both the men.
A case has been registered against both the accused.
