On Wednesday, a senior orthopedic consultant Dr Sudheer from Telangana was attacked by a group of people during his clinic hours for allegedly harassing a patient while he examined her. In fact there were two other female medical personnel as well as another four people who were sitting in the waiting area of the outpatient clinic when he examined her.
CCTV footage shows the woman jumping up while the doctor begins to just within seconds. The women lodged a complaint alleging that the doctor had inappropriately touched her. In response , the doctor too filed a complaint against those who attacked him.
IMA sources said to The News Minute that “The CCTV footage is quite clear. It is evident that the doctor was only carrying out a standard examination and nothing more. We stand by him and are hopeful that the police will do the needful,”.
Only recently, two intern doctors at NRS Medical College, Kolkata, were attacked by a mob of 200 to near-fatal after a 75-year-old patient died in the medicine ward. The relatives of the patient alleged medical negligence on the part of the doctors.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a nationwide protest on Friday in order to protest against the rising number of violent attacks against doctors in the country.
