During her period, Kerala health sector witnessed a tremendous growth and her role was widely praised for Covid Management in the state.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) had a tremendous win in the Kerala Assembly elections held in April for which the results were announced on May 2^nd 2021.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI (M) on Tuesday announced the nominees for the party cabinet led by Pinarayi Vijayan, the biggest surprise was the exclusion of KK Shailaja, health minister in the ongoing LDF government. The decision was made by the state committee of the party, consisting Pinarayi Vijayan, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, MA Baby and K Ramachandran Pillai.

The party claims the decision was to have all news faces in the cabinet.

KK Shailaja is a senior leader and was elected from the Mattannur assembly seat with a historic margin of sixty thousand odd votes. Shailaja has won laurels in society cutting across the political spectrum for her show as health minister. During her period, the State witnessed an unprecedented growth in the health sector at the grassroots level, which has helped the State to handle the ongoing pandemic effectively.  One of the biggest advantages of LDF is its health sector and it has done remarkable achievements, particularly during the Nipah outbreak and the Covid pandemic. KK Shailaja’s leadership during the days of health crises has been hailed.

Shailaja was excluded in the second innings of the Vijayan government and this led to an outrage in the media and has also led to an outburst of celebrities like Anupama Parameswaran, Parvathi and Rima Kalingal. They all expressed their disconsent by posting it on Instagram.
