#MeToo

Noted Malayalam actor and producer Vijay Babu has been charged with sexual assault by a Malayalam actress. In the complaint that was filed in the South Ernakulam Police station, the actress alleged that she was sexually assaulted by Vijay Babu multiple times in a flat in Kochi. Soon after these allegations were placed, Vijay Babu took to Facebook to claim that he was the victim in the case, and also revealed the name of the actress who filed the complaint.

Although it is against the law, Vijay Babu not only revealed the name of the accuser but also went on to say that he would file a defamation case against her.  “I haven’t done anything wrong. I’m the victim in this. The so-called law of this country protects her and she is at ease while I’m the one who is suffering. I will file defamation and a counter-case. It won’t be a small case. I won’t let her get away that easily. I can share all the proof with me but I won’t because I don’t want to cause damage to her family.”

Meanwhile, the actress has lodged a complaint that Vijay Babu sexually assaulted her multiple times with a promise of giving her prominent roles in films. The Police have still not started an investigation into the matter. Official updates from the Police team is still awaited.

Cases of #MeToo and sexual assault have been regular in the Mollywood film industry now. Recently a woman who assisted Liju Krishna in his productions, has charged him with sexual assault. Similarly, the 2017 actress sexual assault case involving Dileep is currently being heard in court.
