Badminton World Championship 2018: PV Sindhu Brings Home The Silver!

Her silver comes after she lost to Carolina Marin.

PV Sindhu lost to Carolina Marin in her second consecutive final of the Badminton World Championships. Currently at 3rd seed, Sindhu fell 19-21, 10-21 against Marin, who is 7th seed. Sindhu, who lost to Nozomi Okuhara in last edition’s final, was incidentally beaten by Marin in the 2016 Rio Games final too.

Despite winning six matches each against each other, Sindhu has won three out of four games she faced Marin since the Rio loss. However, this match proved to be equally engaging with both of them giving each other a hard time at the court.

This is Sindhu’s second silver and fourth medal at the Worlds. Indians have won 8 medals so far at the Championship. Meanwhile, Marin has been creating history for being the only woman to win three World titles.

Speaking about her loss, Sindhu said she was quite frustrated.

“It is very frustrating to lose again. Last time also I had played the finals. It is quite sad and I have to come back stronger and get back to the sessions and prepare for the next tournament.”

Speaking about possibly winning, she said:

“I think overall, she (Marin) played much better. If I could have won the first game it could have been different. In the second game, I made too many errors, my smashes were going out. I can just say it was not my day.”
