Women’s Premier League 2023: Players To Watch Out For This WPL!

The first edition of Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023) is here and the fans cannot wait longer for the first match to take place. Add Here’s a list of seven cricketers to look out for this WPL 2023.

SMRITI MANDHANA


A former world No. 1 ODI batter in the ICC women’s cricket rankings, Smriti is also the youngest captain of the Indian cricket team – men’s or women’s.Smriti was born in Mumbai on July 18, 1996. She had a breakthrough year in 2013. Smriti made her international debut for India in a T20 match against Bangladesh women at Vadodara on April 5. She was just 16 at the time. On her debut, she was India’s highest scorer (39 off 36) and helped the team win by 10 runs and wrap up the bilateral series 3-0. Five days later, Smriti made her One Day International (ODI) debut against Bangladesh in Ahmedabad. Coming in at Number 3, the youngster played a handy innings of 25 from 35 balls.

SHAFALI VERMA

Born on January 28, 2004, in Rohtak, Haryana, Shafali is the youngest cricketer to play in a Women’s T20 International match for India. She is also the youngest player ever to have represented India in all three formats of international cricket.In 2019, at the age of 15, she became the youngest cricketer to play in a Women’s Twenty 20 International match for India. In 2021, she became the youngest player, male or female, to represent India in all three formats of international cricket. In the year 2022, she became the youngest cricketer to complete 1000 runs in T20 Internationals. Under her captaincy, India won the 2023 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. India opener Shafali was sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 crore at the Women’s Premier League Auction in Mumbai.

HARMANPREET KAUR

Harmanpreet Kaur plays as an all-rounder for the Indian women’s cricket team and was awarded the Arjuna Award for Cricket in the year 2017 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.Harmanpreet is the first woman for India to score a century in a Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) match. In 2019, during the series against South Africa, she became the first cricketer for India, male or female, to play in 100 international Twenty20 matches. In February 2023, in the inaugural WPL auction, she was bought by Mumbai Indians for ₹1.80 crores.

TAHLIA McGRATH

Tahlia May McGrath is an Australian cricketer. She made her Women’s One Day International cricket (WODI) debut against South Africa on 27 November 2016. She made her women’s Test debut in The Women’s Ashes in November 2017. She took her first international wicket in the second WODI match against England. During Common Wealth Games 2022, McGrath was to play Finals against India even after testing positive for Covid-19 with mild symptoms.

SOPHIE ECCLESTONE

Sophie Ecclestone (born 6 May 1999) is an English cricketer who plays for Lancashire, North West Thunder, Manchester Originals, Sydney Sixers and England. In December 2018, the International Cricket Council named her the Emerging Player of the Year. At the end of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in March 2020, she became the world’s number one bowler in Women’s Twenty20 International cricket. In July 2021, Ecclestone was named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for June 2021.

NATALIE RUTH SCIVER

Natalie Ruth Sciver-Bruntis an English cricketer.She was the first cricketer for England to take a hat-trick in a Women’s Twenty20 International match.The “Natmeg” shot is named after her from when she has hit a cricket ball through her legs during a game.She began playing cricket as a teenager. She became the first England cricketer to take an international T20 hat-trick.

ASLEIGH KATHERINE GARDNER

Ashleigh Katherine Gardner (born 15 April 1997) is an Australian cricketer who currently plays for the national women’s team as an all-rounder. A right-handed batter and right-arm off spinner, Gardner also plays for New South Wales in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL), for the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and for the Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).She has won three world championships and four national titles with her respective teams, while also gaining numerous individual honours, including the Belinda Clark Award cognises (Australia’s best women’s international cricketer.)
