Titled Chhapaak, the film will have the Deepika play the role of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Her look in the film will be different because of the several facial reconstruction surgeries of the character.
It will be directed by Meghna Gulzar. Actor Vikrant Massey has been roped in to play the male lead. He will essay the role of Laxmi’s former partner, Alok Dixit. Vikrant has worked in several films such as Lootera, Dil Dhadakne Do, Lipstick Under My Burkha, Half Girlfriend and is currently being seen in web series Broken But Beautiful.
This news was announced by Trade analyst Taran Adarsh in his Twitter handle. His tweet read, “It’s official. Deepika Padukone and Meghna Gulzar join hands. Their first film together is titled Chhapaak, based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Vikrant Massey has been signed to enact the lead opposite Deepika.”

The movie is expected to go on floors in March and is to be co-produced by Deepika Padukone. The Padmaavat star welcome her co-star Vikrant Massey on board.

Laxmi Agarwal, whom Deepika is to play in Chhapaak, was a school student when she was attacked by a man who had proposed her for marriage. She is now a TV show host and a campaigner with Stop Acid Attacks. She heads the NGO Chhanv Foundation.
