Vijay Sethupathi Insulted Us: Transgender Community Lashes Out At Team Super Deluxe!

It did not go down well with them!

Super Deluxe has been winning hearts with its wonderful script, four-plot narration and impeccable acting. The movie seems to be a hit worldwide and people are loving the subtle twists and wonderful ends of the climax. However, what’s doing the buzz is the flak Vijay Sethupathi is receiving for donning the role of Shilpa. Shilpa is a transgender woman yearning for acceptance from her family. While a lot of it made sense, some of it did not go down well with the transgender community and they do not seem to be very happy with the actor or the director for misinterpreting their gender and their community.

Priya Babu, a popular personality on Facebook and a transgender blamed and criticised the director for his carelessness. She said, “A transgender is someone who treats other women like her sister but in Super Deluxe, Vijay Sethupathi was shown as someone who got wife and kids. To earn applause and victory, directors like Thiagarajan Kumararaja has as usual made us scapegoats. Just when this society started respecting our community, such half baked portrayal ruins everything for us.”

She further added, “Today, a lot of transgenders are getting respectable jobs but in your film, Shilpa enjoys as if getting Rs 20 from a shopkeeper as her achievement. In another scene, she calls the cop who sexually harasses her as a husband, such a cruel depiction. A transgender is someone who understands the feminine quality within her and cuts off all her men identities. Who told you that transgenders are those who would marry, give birth to a child and then understand their gender?”

It has been reported that Vijay Sethupathi has gotten into legal trouble for the wrong potrayal of transgenders.

It is not just Ms. Babu but also a lot of other transgenders who have voiced against the character of Shilpa.
