CONFIRMED: Harish Kalyan And Priya Bhavani Shankar Pair Up!

The duo’s next would be a remake of the Telugu blockbuster!

Harish Kalyan, of Bigg Boss Tamil season 1 fame, has recently enjoyed great success with movie releases such as the 2018 hit Pyaar Prema Kaadhal and the 2019 film Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum. His venture into Tollywood proved to be successful as well; he played a key role in the highly praised Nani starrer Jersey. He is set to try and extend this purple patch with the newly announced Pelli Choopulu remake in which he will star alongside fellow breakthrough star Priya Bhavani Shankar, who incidentally will also feature alongside Harish in upcoming anthology movie Kasada Thapara.

Priya Bhavani Shankar has also enjoyed a great start to her movie career, after transitioning from news presentation and a role in Vijay TV soap Kalyana Mudhal Kadhal Varai. With a stellar record of having featured in three successful movies in three consecutive years (Meyaadha Maan, Kadaikutty Singam and Monster), and a key role in Shankar’s upcoming Indian 2, she is looking to further herself as one of Kollywood’s brightest young stars with this film.

The original 2016 Vijay Deverakonda-Ritu Varma starrer was a blockbuster, and debutante director Kaarthikk seems confident in bringing about the same success in Tamil.

Speaking to the Times of India, he says “The Telugu and Tamil cultures are pretty much similar. So, there were not many major changes. But lingo wise, we have added a few elements here and there. The original had a sense of rootedness to it. We have retained that by adding by tweaking the way people talk,”

Harish, according to Kaarthikk, was the ideal fit for this movie due to being a natural embodiment of Vijay Deverakonda’s Prashanth in the movie, characterised by what he describes as realness.

“The film had absolute realism. Nothing was staged. Every character felt so real. That is what interested me the most. Harish would fit the bill of the character because that is how he is naturally. I loved the writing of the original,”

Although no release date has been confirmed yet, fans can expect the movie to hit the screens in summer 2020, with the proposed 30 day shooting schedule commencing on December 11.
