Celebrating 11 years of Vijay Sethupathi, from background actor to people’s favorite!

His road to success from VJS to Makkal Selvan

Success has a series of steps and can be achieved only through perseverance and hard work. An epitome of this saying is Vijay Sethupathi. He has lived through it all and has made it big in the Tamil film industry. He has not only got praisings for his natural acting but also his down-to-earth and kind-hearted attitude.

 

It’s due to his never-giving-up attitude he has attained this stage of loud whistles and never-ending screams for his entry or punches in theatres. All the years of struggle, all these years of fame yet one thing or one person has never left by his side. That’s his beloved wife Jessy Sethupathi. Until now even a stripe of win, Vijay lauds his wife and dedicates the victory to her for she is his no.1 cheerleader and moral support.

He always had dreamt of doing big in his life but due to his financial and situational crisis, he never got a chance to start early. He just like any other middle-class person, put his family above his dreams and tried his hands in a wide series of jobs before moving to Dubai. He decided to move to Dubai to work as an NRI Accountant due to his high salary.  This magical place is where he met his forever one.

 

 

The two met through mutual friends and began chatting online as friends until when they realized their true love for each other and decided to tie the knot. But, their parents were not compelled by the idea and restricted their marriage. But after much persuasion, their parents accepted and the couple got hitched at a very young age of 23 in the year 2003.

Unhappy with his job, he decided to move back to India and tried working in few other jobs to support his family. During one such sidekick, he met director Balu Mahendra who said, “You have a very photogenic face” and advised him to pursue acting. Vijay’s constant urge of doing something big in his life made him venture into the acting career. He was unsure of his decision but he decided to dive in with his wife’s support.

 

 

The actor has also claimed on several platforms that it is his wife’s support and push during his initial days of cinema that inspired him to work harder. He begin his acting career by joining a theatre group named Koothupattarai on a few side roles, background roles. From which he made it as a lead in a few short films directed by Karthik Subbaraj in the famous reality TV show Naalaiya Iyakunar. Since then he had acted ins several background roles and small-time supporting roles behind certain big-time actors like Dhanush in Pudupettai, Karthi in Naan Mahaan Alla, etc.

It was the year 2011 when director Seenu Ramaswamy cast the actor in his film Thenmerku Paruvakaatru as the lead. After which he landed his first-ever hit movie, Pizza directed by Karthik Subbaraj. He gave another comedy hit, Naduvala Konjam Pakkatha Kaanum the same year. There’s no going back ever since.

 

 

Fast forward, Vijay Sethupathi became Makkal Selvan with more than 15 awards like the Best actor from the Norway Tamil film festival awards, Tamil state film awards, etc. He shared screen space with several leading actors in K’wood, T’wood, M’wood and now has ventured into Bollywood too. His profile of roles is so versatile that he has acted as both antagonist and protagonist.

 

 

Vijay has a series of movies lined up in his pipeline which makes his fans quite busy for the upcoming years. His next release is Annabelle Sethupathi with Taapsee and Mumbaikar, the Hindi version of Maanagaram. He also has a web series directed by Raj and DK alongside Raashi Khanna. He is currently hosting Masterchef Tamil, a cooking reality TV show adapted from Masterchef Australia.

From background actor, supporting actor, short film actor, to a villain, big-time hero and now a host to a performer, Vijay Sethupathi has embraced this 11 years of his Cinema life and has grown into a full-time method actor with several appreciations in his profile.
