It’s almost a decade after that ending. Where are they now? Gautham Menon, the creator of the two iconic characters and their timeless romance, imagines where they are ten years after the release of Jessie, Karthik’s first film.
The short film titled ‘Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn’ is a sequence to the hit romance Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. Directed by Gautham Menon, starring Simbu and Trisha, AR Rahman is roped in to do the music for the project. The movie follows a phone conversation between the two iconic characters after they continue to stay in touch for a decade. Karthik is stuck indoors and is worried about the lockdown and the whole situation as it affects his career in movies. The two speak about how their journey in their life has been and their fondness for each other.

The 12-minute footage, shot virtually using iPhone, is a phone call between Karthik and Jessie set in the current state of pandemic when karthik discovers Jessie’s visiting Kerala (she lives in the US with her husband and twins) by seeing a picture on Facebook.
Over the years the movie has always triggered conversations of a sequel. What makes this movie a gripping love story for many is a unrequited love that feeds many’s nostalgia. The harsh end is closer to reality and with time the movie was never forgotten and a number of fan-fiction followed that imagined the life of Karthik and Jessie after the movie.
The movie was shoot during lockdown virtually using an iphone. Conversations revolved around the current scenario, so one might suspect it is a fun little project that came out of a phone call Gautham Menon had with Trisha or STR, and then decided to make it on an impulse.
A few days ago Trisha shared a video on her social media, in which, director Gautham Menon is explaining her a scene.
That was followed by the teaser of the movie bringing the reunion of the Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya (2010) trio Trisha, Simbu and Gautham Menon. Days later a media report claims that Simbu has started shooting for his part in the short film. The short film released last night.
