Dada directed by Ganesh K Babu starring Kavin, Aparna Das is an emotional rollercoaster of a film. It revolves around the life of 2 young adults becoming parents and how that changes their life. But due to certain circumstances, the couple fall apart and the father is given the full responsibility of raising a child. This feel-good drama has the right mix of comedy, emotion and love.

Farhana – SonyLiv

Directed by Nelson Venkatesan, it is about a Muslim woman from a conservative family who takes up a job at a call center and ends up in a nightmarish situation. Farhana, played by Aishwarya Rajesh, is caught between her dreams that are stifled within the large family, and the dangers of the world outside to which she has limited exposure. Though she develops an emotional connection with another man outside her marriage, the film takes the trouble of establishing why she feels the need without castigating her actions. The conflict and its resolution may have shades of the male gaze but this is still an interesting departure from conventional depictions.

Good Night movie directed by Vinayak Chandrasekaran is one of the most surprising hits of Kollywood in 2023. Starring Manikandan, Meetha Raghunath, Ramesh Thilak, Raichal Rabecca is the story of the film, it’s a funny representation of a family who are tortured by the snores of their family member. While the movie seems to be about snoring, the underlying theme is about interpersonal human relationships.

Irugapatru – Netflix

Irugapatru tells us the story of three couples, Mithra, who is a marriage counsellor and Mano played by Shraddha Srinath and Vikram Prabhu, Rangesh and Pavithra, new parents who are losing the spark and drifting apart played by Vidharth and Abarnathi and Arjun and Divya, a young couple who are struggling in the initial years of marriage played by Sri and Saniya Iyyapan. The movie follows the story of these three couples and their challenges in their marriage. A common theme in the two couples that come for counseling is the lack of respect the husbands have for their wives. It’s such a common theme among marriages that it’s often dismissed. Directed by Yuvaraj Dhayalan, this movie talks about what happens after marriage.
