The film Indian, directed by Shankar was a blockbuster hit back in 1996. The film starring Kamal Haasan, Manisha Koirala and Urmila Matondkar in lead roles, is one the most favourite films of Kamal according to fans, so far. The film’s sequel has been in talks for more than 5 years now. While the principal photography commenced in 2019, shooting began in 2020 and was going smoothly. However, due to an accident on the sets and the loss of a few members, along with COVID-19, the film was temporarily shelved.

Now, talks about reviving the film are back. When the initial cinematography started, Kajal Aggarwal was paired opposite Kamal for the film. As of now the cast also includes, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Rakul Preet Singh. However, Kajal alone has dropped out of the film, as she got married and gave birth to her son in the mean time. Now, the producers are talking to 2 Bollywood actors for co-starring with Kamal Haasan in the film.

The team now wishes to sign either Deepika Padukone or Katrina Kaif for the film. Deepika is reportedly the highest paid Indian actress, and therefore the team is aiming the same for grandeur. In addition, after the release of Vikram, the team reportedly wants the film to be another blockbuster hit. In addition, as the makers are aiming for a Pan-Indian release, they want a Bollywood actor like Katrina Kaif for the same. The buzz is that both actors are currently in talks with the team, and the official announcement is to be made soon.

Deepika is currently filming for three films, Cirkus, Pathaan, and Project K, which is being shot in Hindi and Telugu. On the other hand, Katrina Kaif is working on Merry Christmas and Tiger 3, and is awaiting the release of Phone Boot.
