Curtains are coming down in 2018. A look back at the year, there is plenty of hope and despair. When it comes to sports, there are quite a few names that brought laurels to nations. And especially women with stupendous performance in their respective field brought greater glory to the nation. The likes of PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Mary Kom, Mithali Raj, Dipika Karmakar among others made the nation proud. P V Sindhu

A silver medallist in Rio Olympic, badminton star P V Sindhu received Padma Shri in 2015. Incidentally, she is also the youngest recipient of this award. 2018 was good for Sindhu but she had a string of six silvers in major finals. However last week saw Sindhu win World Tour Finals in Guangzhou beating Nozomi Okuhara 21-19, 21-17. She claimed gold after repeated losses — seven in minor and major events this year alone. Today she is No 3 in the players’ rankings. She also won Bronze in Asian Games 2018.
