Missing a period is a nightmare! We easily jump to conclusions and draw inferences making our condition worse than it already is. Anytime your period is late, and pregnancy is ruled out as a reason, it could mean the cause is one among the following:
Extensive Workouts
Many experts say overdoing a workout regime or missing meals to lose weight- aren’t healthy for your body. Because of over-exercise the body is unable to produce enough estrogen, the hormone responsive for the menstrual cycle.
Hormonal Imbalance
We have all heard of the Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). It’s a condition wherein the female sex hormones are imbalanced. These cause cysts to form inside the ovaries and a gynecologist needs to be consulted. It’s a lifestyle disorder that can be kept in check if you adopt certain measures.
Weight Loss
A sudden dip in weight will cause a period or two to miss. Your weight affects the hypothalamus, which is responsible for all bodily functions. Weight loss stresses the gland which makes it inefficient in getting your cycles on time.
Tension and Stress
Stress and tension are the modern woman’s biggest enemies. Stress can affect many things in our lives, including our periods. It can cause an imbalance in hormones which delays your ovulation and menstrual cycles.
Erratic Schedules
A change in sleeping time, food habits, or your routine in general can affect your cycle. Especially if you have been travelling or working night shifts, your body responds negatively to all that. This happens because of a change that your body needs some time to deal with. All goes back to normal once you’re back in schedule.
