Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu to Kantara Hindi: South Films Releasing on OTT and Theatres This Week!

Every week there are an array of South Indian films that release both on OTT as well as in theatres. South films are increasingly doing well in theatres after the pandemic. While Bollywood films are not working much, South films have been reaching great places and are receiving several accolades. If you’re a lover of South Indian films, here’s a list of films that are expected to release in theatres and on OTT platforms, this week.

 

1) Kantara (Hindi):

Produced under the banner of KGF fame Hombale Films, Kantara is a Kannada language action thriller directed by Rishab Shetty. The film stars Shetty as a Kambala champion, who comes to loggerheads with an upright DRFO officer, Murali (Kishore). Achyuth Kumar and Sapthami Gowda feature in supporting roles. The movie was released in Kannada on 30th September, 2022. The movie fared really well in the Kannada language, and is now all set to be re-released in Hindi on October 14th. Interestingly, Rishab Shetty has not only directed this man vs. nature film, but has also done a dual role.

 

2) Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu:

God or devil': VTK trailer promises to be a gritty gangster drama

Gautam Vasudev Menon’s Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu was released in theatres on September 15, 2022. After having a wonderful run in theatres, the movie has now geared up to be released on Amazon Prime Video, on October 13th. The story was written by author Jeyamohan, and stars Silambarasan and Siddhi Idnani in lead roles. The story revolves around a young low-caste village boy who travels to Mumbai to earn a living and to study. His quest takes him on a series of unexpected events, where he gets involved in the underground activities of Mumbai’s Tamil gangsters.

 

3) Crazy Fellow:

Directed by Phani Krishna Siriki, Crazy Fellow is a Telugu drama starring Aadi, Digangana Suryavanshi, Mirnaa Menon and Saptagiri as lead characters. The story is about a youngster who doesn’t listen to anything completely and we deal with the complications that may arise out of this. The movie is expected to release on this Friday, October 14th.

 

4) Eesho:

Eesho Review

Starring Jayasurya, Namitha Pramod and Jaffar Idukki in lead roles, Eesho is a Malayalam language thriller film directed by Nadirshah. The movie’s story goes like this; while working the night at an ATM, a security guard, Ramachandran Pillai (Jaffar Idukki) who is the prime witness in the case against a powerful industrialist, Sevichan (Suresh Krishna) happens across a mysterious man named Eesho (Jayasurya). Who is Eesho and what does he want? Turns out Eesho is a hitman and turns for the rest of the plot. The movie is all set to release on OTT in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada languages.

 

5) Sathuranga Vettai 2:

Sathuranga Vettai 2 gets a new release date- Cinema express

Written by H Vinoth and Directed by Nirmal Kumar, Sathuranga Vettai 2 is the sequel of the original film directed by Vinoth. The sequel stars Aravind Swamy and Trisha in lead roles.  Indrajith Sukumaran, Prakash Raj, Daniel Balaji and Nassar have performed in supporting roles. The first film revolved around Gandhi, a skilled con man, who successfully pulls off several high-profile scams. A group of people, whom he had cheated, get together to trap him to settle scores. The movie is expected to release on October 14th.

6) Godfather (Tamil):

Directed by Mohan Raja, Godfather is the official Telugu remake of Lucifer starring Mohan Lal in Malayalam. The Telugu remake stars Chiranjeevi in Mohan Lal’s role, while Salman Khan, Nayanthara and Satya Dev have also played prominent roles. The movie fared extremely well in Telugu and is now being re-released for the Tamil audience. The Tamil version of the film is all set to release on October 14 in the local theatres.
