Sita Ramam: Did you know Pooja Hegde was to initially play Sita Mahalakshmi?

Instead of Mrunal Thakur!

Dulquer Salmaan and debutante Mrunal Thakur starrer Sita Ramam hit theatres recently, and the film has become one of the critic’s most favourite of the season. Directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, the movie is a romance drama set in 1964, amidst warfare. The movie also stars Rashmika Mandanna as the narrator, and many others including Prakash Raj, Gautam Vasudev Menon, Tharun Bhascker, Sumanth, Bhumika Chawla and Abhinaya.

All those who watched the film have specifically appreciated Mrunal Thakur for her performance more than anybody else. As a debutante into South, she has won the hearts of the film critics and is likely to land many more roles in the coming future. Her expression and costume design are what really caught the eye of the audience throughout the film. Mrunal Thakur has now become the new town fame down South. On the other hand, a recent report reveals that Pooja Hegde was initially approached for the role.

According to reports, Pooja Hegde was initially in talks with the film’s team for playing the role of Sita Mahalakshmi. However, she apparently rejected the offer. Now, those who watched the film know that Mrunal’s role was much more than even that of Dulquer Salmaan, and it was one of the strongest roles written for women in recent times.

Sita Ramam performed well at the box office over the weekend, with a robust trend on Saturday and Sunday. The Dulquer starrer grossed Rs. 17.25 crores during its opening weekend in India. Bankrolled by Ashwini Dutt under the banner of Swapna Cinema, PS Vinod has handled the camera work for the flick.

On the work front, Mrunal Thakur is currently awaiting the release of Pooja Meri Jaan and Pippa. She is also working on movies like Aankh Micholi and Gumraah, both in Hindi. Pooja Hegde on the other hand, is filming for Cirkus, Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali and Jana Gana Mana.
