Savitri’s biopic Mahanati to release on May 9!

Keerthy Suresh plays yesteryear actress Savitri!

The most anticipated biopic of the year is the Tamil-Telugu bilingual on legendary southern actress Savitri directed by Nag Ashwin.  Keerthy Suresh will be playing the role of Savitri and Dulquer Salmaan will play her husband Gemini Ganesh. We also reported that Naga Chaitanya has been signed to play his late grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao in this film. The story of Savitri is to be narrated through the eyes of Samantha in Mahanati. Telugu actor Vijay Devarakonda will also be playing a crucial part in the movie.

The movie will be directed by the famous filmmaker Nag Ashwin, known for his movie, Yevade Subramanyam. According to the director, “There have been countless actresses over the last 80 years in Telugu cinema but none have earned the title of Mahanati, and even today it has solely been reserved for Savitri.”

The film is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and will be made simultaneously in both Telugu and Tamil. Mostly the movie will also be dubbed in Malayalam. Mahanati will go on the floors within this year. The film will be released in Tamil as Nadigaiyar Thilagam. 

Talking about the May 9 release, Director Nag Ashwin had revealed in his interview to Firstpost: “We were supposed to come to this month end. But, the VFX process is taking more time than expected and we don’t want to rush and compromise on the output. Therefore, this month looks quite tight.”
