Police issues Notice to Oru Adaar Love Director!

The director has been asked to respond within 15 days.

Not even a week after Priya Prakash Varrier debuted in the song, “Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ from the film ‘Oru Adar Love’ which went viral, because of memes and spoofs, it seems like the movie+song is in the headlines again. We had earlier reported that a fringe group has called for the ban of the song based on the complaint that it hurts Muslim sentiments. Raza Academy President said that using the folk number in movies is any ‘Islamic laws’. He had said, “The lyrics of the song are of a Malayalam folk song which is only sung during the events of Muslims, using it in movies or any form of entertainment is against the Islamic laws.” He added, “If the song is not removed from the film then the members of Raza academy will protest nationwide.”

Now the Hyderabad police have sent a notice to Malayalam film director Omar Lulu, on Sunday asking him to submit an explanation against the allegations laid against him. After the director’s response in 15 days or less the police will decide if there is a case under section 41 or to dismiss the whole issue. On Feb 14th, the Falaknuma police registered a case against the director under section 295 A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings).

The popular Mappila Pattu song of Kerala, it was written in 1978 and now composed by Thalassery for the movie. The song has been called out for hurting Muslim sentiments as the song lyrics talks about the love story between Prophet Mohammed and his wife Khadija Bivi. A fatwa was issued by a Hyderabad-based seminary Darul Ifta Jamia Nizamia asking the makers to either remove the song or change the song’s lyrics. The director was pressured into removing the song from YouTube but later said he was not going to.
