Good News for Samantha Akkineni!!

Exciting days ahead for this actress!

Samantha Akkineni is the talk of the town and with good reason! Merely five months into 2018 and she already has three successful films to her credit. What adds more is the fact that these are all films released after her marriage, thereby breaking the myth that married actresses have a small “shelf life”.

Taking to Twitter, the actress expressed her joy. “Thank you with all my heart for giving me the best summer I could ever ask for!” she wrote.

A few days ago, the actress had mentioned on social media that her films are like report cards based on her performance in 2017.

The actress’ three films – Rangasthalam, Mahanati (Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil), and Irumbu Thirai – have been received, with the last two releasing today.

In Rangasthalam, Samantha plays Ramalakshmi, a village girl who falls in love with Ram Charan’s character, Chitti Babu. Directed by Sukumar, this village revenge drama was received well by the audience with the reception even translating to numbers at the box-office. The film is said to have earned over Rs 200 crores at the overall box-office.

In Tamil-Telugu film Mahanati, Samantha plays Madhuravani, a journalist from another era. The film, directed by Nag Ashwin, is a biopic on late actress Savitri, who was regarded as one of South Indian cinema’s original lady superstars. While Keerthy Suresh played the titular role, Samantha’s role was equally lauded for adding more to the film’s story. The Telugu version released on May 9 while the Tamil version released today.

Tamil science fiction thriller Irumbu Thirai released on May 11, too, starring Samantha as the female lead, cast opposite actor and TFPC president Vishal Krishna. The film is directed by debutant PS Mithran and is said to deal with data protection and privacy-related concerns. The film has mostly been subjected to positive reviews on social media. Samantha happens to play a doctor named Rathi Devi, while Vishal’s character is an army officer called R Kathiravan. Interestingly, some of the film’s shows in Chennai have been disrupted owing to BJP protesters cancelling the show as the film has references to Aadhaar data.

On the work front, Samantha has a slew of projects in the pipeline including Seema Raja with Sivakarthikeyan, Super Deluxe with Vijay Sethupathi, and the Telugu and Tamil remakes of Kannada film U-Turn.
