A story has no language barrier!

People always say how Bollywood copies South Indian films and makes huge profits out of it. But If the story is good, it should reach as many people and for that it has to be remade into various languages. Here we bring you 9 movies which were super hits in Bollywood, that were remade in South Indian languages! 

 

MANITHAN

The latest release of Udhayanidhi Stalin is a remake of the Hindi movie Jolly LLB. The film is a courtroom drama and sees the protagonist help innocent people from the law. The original won the National Award for the best feature film and had Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani in lead roles. The Tamil remake had much more seriousness to it than the original, which was more of a comedy. Manithan meaning human, too has been receiving positive reviews at the box office.

Delhi belly JFW

 

Remake of the famous and controversial movie, Delhi Belly, this film had Arya, Santhanam and Premji Amaran in lead roles. The original was raved for it’s different attempt and bold approach. The film revolves around three roommates who suddenly see themselves in an unexpected situation. The Tamil remake did not do well at the box office as this kind of dark comedy was not accepted by the audience.

 

GOPALA GOPALA

The movie was a remake of 2012 Hindi film, OMG- Oh My God! which is based on an atheist who sued God for his losses. The Telugu remake of the movie saw Venkatesh as the atheist and Pawan Kalyan as Lord Krishna. The original had successful actors Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar play the lead roles. The Telugu remake was widely accepted by the audience.

 

AAHA KALYANAM

This Tamil movie had debutante Vani Kapoor and Telugu actor Nani in lead roles. It was remake of the superhit movie, Band Baaja Baaraat which had Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh play the lead characters. The Tamil flick did not connect with the audience like its Hindi counterpart and bombed at the box office.

 

TEEN MAAR

Teen Maar was a remake of the Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan starrer, Love Aaj Kal which was directed by celebrated director Imtiaz Ali. The Telugu remake had megastar Pawan Kalyan, Trisha and Kriti play the lead roles. The film received positive review by the audience and Pawan Kalyan’s performance was appreciated.

 

UNNAIPOL ORUVAN/ EEENADU

This political thriller starring Kamal Haasan was a remake of the hit Hindi film, A Wednesday. The original had acclaimed actor Naseeruddin Shah play the protagonist. The film revolves around a particular day when a common man makes a bomb threat to the city’s police commissioner. With an interesting plot, the film was successful in all languages.

 

NANBAN

The official remake of the widely acclaimed 3 Idiots, Nanban had Vijay, Jiiva and Srikanth and was directed by ace director Shankar. The film was expected to bomb at the box office as almost everybody had seen the original film. But Shankar added more elements to the movie and made it an interesting watch for the Tamil audience.

 

KANDEN KADHALAI

This film was the remake of the 2007 romantic comedy, Jab We Met, which had Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. The original was directed by Imtiaz Ali. The film was a major blockbuster and was remake as Kanden Kadhalai in 2009 with Tamannaah and Bharath. The remake received positive reviews and audience appreciated the lead pair’s chemistry on screen.

 

SHANKAR DADA ZINDABAD/ VASOOL RAJA MBBS

Another blockbuster hit in Bollywood starring Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan in lead roles. The film was a laugh riot and was remade in Tamil as Vasool Raja MBBS with Kamal Haasan and in Telugu as Shankar Dada Zindabad with Chiranjeevi. Both the remakes were a hit and widely appreciated.
