5 Yesteryear heroines who turned character artistes

Way to go!

Tamil cinema had seen actresses who stole the show playing heroines. And after a break when they began their second innings, they did bag plum roles and continued from where they left, but in strong character roles. Here are a few names from Tamil cinema who prefer doing meaty roles in films that no doubt win them laurels.

A National award wining actress, Archana was quite popular playing lead in off-beat cinema, especially that of Balu Mahendra. Her acting prowess was so versatile that she was called Smita Patil of South India. She is back after a long gap to do a prominent role that of Vijay Sethupathi’s wife in Seethakathi. In the movie, Vijay Sethupathi plays 80-year-old theatre artiste Ayya. Archana’s subtle performance in the film has won her rave reviews. And now she has a couple of films and she plays the lead in the both. A strong and a powerful character which sets the story going.
