Malayalam movie ‘Charlie’ fame Actress Parvathy Menon opens up about the casting couch situation in the Malayalam film industry. The actress who is known for her brilliant acting skills and versatility in Tamil and Malayalam movies said, “Casting couch is a reality and everyone knows about it but personally, I’ve been asked to do such favors only in Malayalam and not in Tamil, Hindi or Kannada. It was sort of an obligation. See we gave you the break and I was like what break dude? I already did my job and I don’t think I have to do anything more.”
“Of course there is casting couch in the Malayalam film industry. You know it, I know it, I’m sure a lot of people know it. I don’t understand why it’s a surprise at all. It’s a reality, why are we even shocked about it? I haven’t faced it at all in any other industry, but only in Malayalam industry.” The actress also mentioned that she has also been a victim to it and has never frowned away from saying a big, strong “NO” to them.
Parvathy says many senior directors and actors have openly approached her but she preferred to ignore them and not work with such people. “A few people within the industry tried to convince me saying that it’s very common in the industry but as women, we have every right to say NO”, added the actress. The actress also says that senior actors have passed lecherous comments on her body, which is in bad taste.
Parvathy has done some brilliant roles in movies like ‘Mariyan’, ‘Charlie’ and ‘Bangalore Days’. Her choice of sporting different roles for the different films makes her loved by all. Parvathy has often been referred as Lady Prithviraj. Responding to the tag, she said, “It’s supposed to be a compliment, right? Prithviraj speaks his mind, so do I. I hope he doesn’t get insulted with people calling me that. He is one person who is thoroughly interested in a film’s technical aspects and can go on at length about them. But I am not like that.”
