Women Don’t Report Sexual Offences: Varalaxmi Sarathkumar

Fight for justice!

Recently, actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar made headlines when she slammed a leading TV Channel’s programming head for making sexual advances at her. She revealed the much spoke about ‘casting couch’ is real. Post the incident, Varalaxmi is determined to fight against such sexual offenses and help other women. The actress has launched a campaign along with ‘Save Shakti’ foundation to appeal to the government to provide more Mahila courts which will help serve justice.

She says,”Due to the lack of excessive Mahila courts, women tend not to register the sexual offences and also there are a lot more pending cases which haven’t even reached the hearing. If the Mahila courts increase, it’ll be a special court for all sex crimes against women, which will allow the victims to feel free and register the cases.”

“One of the main reasons victims don’t go to court is because of the ordeal and the wait that they have to face. If the verdict time is decreased, sex offenders will not escape without conviction over  longer period of time,” she added.

The actress has also started a petition to fight the cause: Click here to read
