Karunanidhi was in poor health from October 2016 and minimized his political activities and public appearances, with the last one being on his 94th birthday on June 3, 2018. On 28 July 2018, Karunanidhi’s health deteriorated and became “extremely critical and unstable”, and he was admitted at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai for treatment. He died there at 6:10 p.m. on August 7, 2018 due to age-related illness, which led to multiple organ failure.
On August 8, he was laid to rest at Marina beside his mentor Annadurai with many known figures paying tribute to him. Actress Trisha, who had shared photos of her with him from the past, visited his memorial today to pay tribute.
“I will never forget your warmth and kindness,” she wrote about him on Twitter.
Regarded as a long-standing leader of the Dravidian self-respect movement and ten-time president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) political party, many celebrities felt it was ‘an end of an era’ with Karunanidhi’s death considering he had left a deep impact in politics and cinema, especially in works such as Parasakthi.
