While Aparna received the Best Actress award for playing Bommi in the film, Suriya won Best Actor for playing Nedumaaran Rajangam. The National Award in India is considered the most prestigious award for the entire film fraternity. Apart from them, Lakshmipriyaa Chandramouli has won the Best supporting actress for Vasanth’s Sivaranjiniyum Inum Sila Pengalum. The Best Tamil film was also bagged by Sivaranjiniyum Inum Sila Pengalum, which also won the award for best editing. GV Prakash won the award for Best Music Direction, again for Soorarai Pottru. Soorarai Pottru, which also won Best Screenplay is now being remade in Hindi with Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan in lead roles.

Soorarai Pottru, which marked Suriya’s digital debut, had a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video. The Sudha Kongara directorial, which was originally planned as a theatrical release, later went the OTT way owing to the first wave of the pandemic. The much-loved film is now getting remade in Hindi, with Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan reprising Suriya and Aparna Balamurali’s roles, respectively.
