TRENDING: Amala Paul Reacts To Rejecting Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan!

But Why?

Talk about the Cholas has been running wild as the movie Ponniyin Selvan is all set to release on September 30th. The movie revolves around the Chola empire and mostly about Ponniyin Selvan, also known as Raja Raja Chozhan or Arunmozhi Varman. Ponniyin Selvan is originally a Tamil novel based on the life of Raja Raja Chola, written by Kalki. While there have been several attempts in the past to make it a film, Mani Ratnam has now started this project, which will be released in two parts. Starring Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sarathkumar in lead roles, this is considered to be Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus. Jayam Ravi is said to play Arun Mozhi Varman, while Trisha is said to play his sister Kundavai. Karthi will be seen as Vanthiya Thevan, while Aishwarya Rai will be Nandini. Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Lal and Kishore will be playing prominent roles.

Reports are now strife that Amala Paul was offered to play one of the lead roles in the film. While we do not know what role she was offered, she had apparently rejected the offer that was put forth by Mani Ratnam. Over the past few days, many have been asking the actress why she refused to take up such an iconic role in the Magnum Opus. Many even questioned how she could reject an offer put forth by a veteran director like Mani Ratnam. Amala Paul has finally opened up about the same. Amala Paul said, “I am a huge fan of Mani sir and I was so excited for it. And that didn’t happen at that time (after the first audition). I was so disappointed and sad. Then in 2021, he called me for the same project. And like I said, I was not in the mental state to do it, so I had to turn it down. If you ask me if I regret doing that, I won’t, because certain things are just perfect. It’s perfectly designed and I think it’s just about how we look at.(sic)”

While Ravi Varman is handling the camera for Ponniyin Selvan, Sreekhar Prasad is handling the edit and Thotta Tharani is designated with the Production Design of the film. The film is bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies. The music director for the movie is AR Rahman. PS-1 is slated for a worldwide release on September 30, 2022, in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. The team announced that Ponniyin Selvan will be the first Tamil movie to be released in the IMAX format. This will ensure that the audience will have the larger-than-life experience of watching the film, just like the movie itself.

The film is to be released in 2 parts, and the first part is releasing on September 30th. The final work of the film is currently going on, and the director has reportedly made a final copy of the film. The runtime of the film is apparently 2 hours and 50 minutes or 170 minutes, which is less than several large-scale movies. Probably, Mani Ratnam went for a short and sweet first half, in order to hook the audience with a longer and more detailed second part. The budget of the film is said to be a whopping Rs 500 crore. The audience is eagerly waiting for the film and now we hear that ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ digital rights have been sold for a whopping price. Reports suggest that both the parts of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ have been sold on a whole to a popular OTT platform for an amount of Rs 125 crores. The OTT platform is none other than Amazon Prime Video. So those of you who don’t want to witness the grandeur in the theatre, can relax and watch the film on your home screen.

Amala Paul was last seen in the Tamil film Cadaver, which she also Produced. She is now awaiting the release of Adho Andha Paravai Pola, which is delayed. She is working on the films Teacher, Cristopher and Aadujeevitham, all of which are in Malayalam. She was recently in the news because of her ex-boyfriend Bhavinder Singh, who alleged that the two got married when they were in a relationship. However, Amala Paul has denied those allegations.
