TRENDING: A R Rahman To Direct P Susheela’s Biopic?

That’s awesome news!

A R Rahman’s maiden production, ‘99 songs’, has created a lot of buzz and positive reviews are pouring in for this grand, larger than life movie. It was initially released in theaters on April 16th before lockdown was imposed. It was released on Netflix on 22nd May and many who watched believed that it was meant for the big screens.

The Oscar-winner recently conducted an interaction with fans on Twitter Spaces to promote the OTT release, where he was asked the biggest compliment he had received for this movie. He recalled his interaction with veteran playback singer, P Susheela and said “I was talking to the great south Indian singer P Susheela ma yesterday (on Saturday), and I asked her if she had watched 99 Songs. I told her that it is out on Netflix, and she asked me what’s that. Later, her brother, who was with her spoke, to me and I told him to show her the Telugu version of our film on OTT. After watching, she called back and said, ‘This is very good’. And then she added, ‘I want my story to be made this way, will you help it? That was epic. She is one of the legends and she has sung like so many thousands of songs and has been there for seven generations. And she is one of my favourite singers and seeing someone from that generation responding to my film that way was lovely.”

The composer has been working on projects in various languages. He is part of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ and has given his music to Vikram’s ‘Cobra’. He has also composed music for Aanand L Rai’s ‘Atrangi Re!’ starring Dhanush, Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan.
