1.Sacred Games:

Based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 novel with the same name, Sacred Games is an Indian Crime Thriller streaming television series directed jointly by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Neeraj Ghaywan. It stars Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles and Radhika Apte, Pankaj Tripathi, Kubbra Sait and Kalki Koechlin in supporting roles. The series begins with Sartaj Singh, a troubled police officer in Mumbai who receives a phone call from gangster Ganesh Gaitonde, who tells him to save the city within 25 days. The series chronicles the events which follow. The series has 2 seasons and has been nominated for a 2019 Best Drama International Emmy Award.

2. Delhi Crime:

Delhi Crime is an Indian Crime Drama streaming Television series directed by Richie Mehta and stars Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal and Rajesh Tailang in lead roles. Released in 2019, the series is based on the 2012 Delhi Gang Rape case. This crime drama follows the Delhi Police investigation into the finding of the men who perpetrated the crime. The first season on this series won the International Emmy Awards for Best Drama Series in 2020. This series is also renewed for a season 2. 

 

3. Taj Mahal 1989:

Written and directed by Pushpendra Nath Misra, Taj Mahal 1989 is an Indian Comedy Drama Romance web television series starring  Neeraj Kabi, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Sheeba Chaddha and Danish Husain in lead roles. With 1 season consisting of 7 episodes, this series is set in Lucknow, 1989. The story follows the intersecting lives of a Lucknow University professor couple, their students, a long lost friend and his lover, and a schoolgirl in love with an older boy. Through the daily struggles and triumphs of the characters, the series explores the different shades of love over the ages as it mutates and matures. Set in past times, this series explores a lot of old-age romance and is a treat to all poem-lovers. 

4. Jamtara – Sabka Number Ayega:

Directed by Soumendra Padhi, Jamtara-Sabka Number Ayega is an Indian Crime Drama streaming Television series, written by Trishant Srivastava. It stars Amit Sial and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in lead roles. This 2020 series has 1 season and revolves around a bunch of small-town young guns who operate a successful phishing racket, but then they come across a corrupt politician who wants a share of their business. Finally there’s a cop who wants to fight against them all. This series brought out the Phishing crimes into light and created a lot of awareness amongst people. This low-budget series was considered a big-hit because of the topic it dealt with. It is now renewed for a Season 2.

5. Ghoul:

Starring Radhika Apte, Ghoul is an Indian horror streaming television series written and directed by Patrick Graham. It is the second Netflix Original from India after Sacred Games. The story is set in India in a dystopian future where fascism is at its top, and the story’s main plot is the interrogation of a dreaded terrorist Ali Saeed in a secret government internment camp that ignites a series of horrifying and supernatural events in the aftermath. This series has only 3 episodes but has beautifully taken the story ahead. It gives you the shivers and eerie feeling and makes you sleepless. It is the perfect series for Horror-lovers.

6. Masaba Masaba:

Masaba Masaba, is an Indian Biographical Drama streaming television series based on the life story of Masaba Gupta the daughter of Neena Gupta. It stars Masaba and Neena Gupta playing their respective real-life characters. It also stars Neil Bhoopalam and Satyadev Mishra in supporting roles. The series is a scripted version of the life of Masaba Gupta, featuring her family, her love life and her career as a fashion designer. When it comes to Indian series, this stands number one in terms of Fashion. This short series was very well received by Fashionistas and has been trending ever since. The series is now renewed for a Season 2. 

7. She:

Starring Aaditi Pohankar She is an Indian Crime Drama streaming Television series that came out in 2020. It is directed by Arif Ali and Avinash Das and created and written by Imtiaz Ali and Divya Johry. She follows the story of a poor female constable in the Indian Police Force who has been inducted in the Anti Narcotics Group to fight a major drug lord As a part of the mission, Bhumika gets dressed to roam in the by-lanes of Mumbai city. Meanwhile, during the day Bhumika has to fight off her drunkard-husband to finalize divorce. She is the sole earning person of her family, while her mother is an ill person at home and her sister is a college student. The show depicts the idea that a woman’s body can work well to control her surroundings. The female-lead and the role played by Vijay Varma was appreciated. 

8. A Suitable Boy:

Directed by Mira Nair, A Suitable Boy is based on Vikram Seth’s 1993 novel with the same name. It was written by Andrew Davies and stars Tabu, Ishaan Khatter, Tanya Maniktala, Rasika Dugal and Namit Das in lead roles. A Suitable Boy is set in 1951, a newly post-independence, post-partition India. The novel follows four families during 18 months, and centres on Mrs. Rupa Mehra (Mahira Kakkar) and her efforts over the arrangement of the marriage of her younger daughter, Lata Mehra (Tanya Maniktala), to a “suitable boy”. Lata is a 19-year-old university student who refuses to be influenced by her domineering mother or opinionated brother, Arun Mehra (Vivek Gomber). Her story revolves around the choice she is forced to make between her suitors. The series was well-received for its beautiful portrayal of the mind-set of people during the Post-Independence era. It is a miniseries with 6 episodes that covers most parts of the original novel. 

9. Mismatched:

Starring young heartthrobs Rohit Saraf and Prajakta Koli, Mismatched is a 2020 Indian coming-of-age Romantic Drama web series on Netflix, based on Sandhya Menon’s 2017 novel When Dimple Met Rishi. It was adapted by Gazal Dhaliwal and directed by Akarsh Khurana and Nipun Dharmadhikhari. The story revolves around Dimple Ahuja who wants to be a tech wizard and Rishi Singh Shekhawat who is a young guy who believes in traditional way of dating: meeting in person, being drunk on love, and has come to Aravalli Institute to find his ‘Future Wife’. Dimple is driven and Rishi’s bewitched, and wants to tie the knot with her. This 6 episode series became trending among the youth for its take on romance and because of the cast. It is now officially renewed for a second season.
