Samantha Ruth Prabhu
It’s just been over 5 years that Samantha has entered the South Indian film industry, however, she has received super stardom in very little time. Sam, as her fans love to call her, has not looked back since. Samantha debuted in Gautham Menon’s ‘Ae Maya Chesave’ in 2010 and has continued to top the charts. She won many awards in her career and this year has been super hit for the star. 2016 started with a low for Sam as her movie ‘Bangalore Naatkal’ a remake of superhit Malayalam film ‘Bangalore days’ bombed at the box office. This did not affect her confidence as she went on to garner many rave reviews for her next movie ‘Theri’ opposite Vijay.
Samantha worked with almost every top star in the South cinema and her next big movie was with Suriya in 24. The movie fared average at the box office, however, Samantha’s role was well received. Samantha’s next movie was a huge family entertainer ‘Brahmotsavam’ which bombed at the box office. However, she took it ahead and garnered positive reviews for her next film ‘A..Aa’. In her next movie Janatha Garage, which was a huge blockbuster, Samantha once again proved she’s here to stay.
She is currently working on three Tamil films which have already set up curiosity for the upcoming year. It’s been a great year for her as she found love in her former co-star Naga Chaitanya and is all set to get engaged in 2017! Let’s see what the New Years brings in for the star.
Trisha Krishnan
It’s rare that an actress has taken the top spot for over a decade in the South film industry. Trisha broke all rules and stereotypes by acting in varied roles and characters in these 10 years. The former beauty pageant winner has made a mark for herself and continues to win millions of hearts each time she walks in onscreen. She started her career when she was a teenager as Simran’s friend in Jodi. Post which she maintained the lead role and won many accolades for the same.
She was termed a “refreshing new talent” by critics when her first movie Mounam Pesiyadhe released. Though it was a moderate success, Trisha had arrived. After starring in many hit Tamil movies, Trisha debuted in Telugu with Varsham which was a huge box office winner. She has acted in the lead role in over 50 movies and 2016 has been a mix of great and not so great movies.
She starred in Aranmanai 2 and a bilingual Nayagi/ Nayaki which did not fare well, however, her choice of roles were well appreciated and she continued to showcase her brilliant acting skills. Trisha’s biggest blockbuster this year was ‘Kodi’ in which she played a subtle yet wicked negative role.
The year 2017 seems to be exciting for the star as she debuts in the Malayalam film industry with ‘Hey Jude’ opposite Nivin Pauly. We just can’t wait to see the pair on screen.
Nayanthara
She continues to rule the box office across all the regional film industries down south. Nayanthara has time and again proved she’s the boss on screen. After a short stint in modelling, Nayanthara debuted in her first movie ‘Manasinakkare’, which was a huge blockbuster. After a successful run at the box office, she arrived in Telugu and Tamil industry, and the rest is history.
Nayanthara had five releases in 2016 across Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil industry. Her movie Babu Bangaram opposite Tollywood superstar Venkatesh was well received and though some of her movies this year haven’t fared well, she proved that her acting skills were to look out for.
2017 comes with a great promise for Nayanthara as she is currently working on five movies. We wish her all the best!
