In this week’s release, Imaikka Nodigal, Nayanthara plays a CBI officer who is tasked to nab a psycho-killer played by Anurag Kashyap. Her character is that of a no-nonsense person who has only work in mind and doesn’t flinch when it comes to abusing or wielding the gun – a role that is often associated for male stars.
Turns out, the role was meant for an actor – Mammootty. The Malayalam actor was supposed to play the CBI officer way back in 2014 but the script underwent a few changes and it was then decided that a female lead would suit it better.
Directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu, the film also stars Atharva Murali, Raashi Khanna, and Vijay Sethupathi. Produced by CJ Jayakumar of Cameo Films India, Imaikkaa Nodigal has music composed by Hip Hop Tamizha.
There’s a perception that female-led films don’t do as well as male-led ones, thus propagating the notion that an actress cannot solely carry a film on her own but needs a man, an actor, to put it on the map. However, Nayanthara has reinforced the belief that one must go beyond looking at mere actors on the silver screen. In the past, her films such as Maya, Dora, Aramm, and now Kolamaavu Kokila, are perfect examples.
