When the Savitri biopic Mahanati (Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil) was out, some critics and audience pointed out how the character Pushpavalli, someone with whom Gemini Ganesan was involved with, wasn’t part of the narrative. Turns out, she was very much part of the story but a scene comprising her and little Rekha was deleted. The makers have since released a deleted scene that features Savitri, played by Keerthy Suresh, inviting Pushpavalli and Rekha to her house and trying to fix the relationship between Gemini Ganesan, played by Dulquer Salman, and his daughter Rekha.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, the biopic on the late actress also stars Samantha Akkineni and Vijay Devarakonda in key roles – with the former playing a journalist and the latter a photographer accompanying her. Apart from them, the film’s cast also includes Naga Chaitanya, Prakash Raj, Shalini Pandey, Krish, Mohan Babu, and others, with music by Mickey J Meyer.
