A German tourist was allegedly raped by five unidentified men in the broad daylight on the beaches of Mamallapuram near Chennai. She was part of a group of tourists visiting the country. The tourist was walking alone by a casuarina grove near a private resort they stayed at when the incident occurred. According to various media reports, five German nationals had reached the city a couple of days back and had left to Mamallapuram on Saturday. The TOI stated that the rape survivor had been sunbathing on the resort’s private beach on Sunday. She had then decided to take a stroll along the coast but wandered too far from the resort’s private beach, and reportedly dozed off.
When she woke up from her sleep she was confused to see three unidentifiable men confronting her. Before she could react, three men dragged her and allegedly raped her. Police officials investigating the case told The News Minutes that the assault took place after 8.30 am in the morning. “She had been walking alone along the beach when she was dragged away. Even she cannot identify exactly where the incident happened,” said a police officer.
