Be it a period film, a contemporary film, a movie promotion or even better, Bigg Boss, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan could literally pull off any look and his personal stylist, Amritha Ram just loves experimenting with his looks. This friendship started off when this ace stylist styled the actor up for his Vishwaroobam promotions and they have been a superpower duo ever since. “There is nothing Kamal sir cannot pull off. He is someone who understands style in and out. No matter what he wears, he coherently adds his personality and attitude to it; that just gives the entire look a unique appeal. He would give me pointers to help me style him better. I would mention ideas and post-discussion, it would invariably take up a beautiful form,” says Amritha.
She adds that every weekend, the duo comes up with something new and fresh and that’s how Kamal’s weekend looks in Bigg Boss have been a tremendous hit. She takes us through some of the most Iconic looks from Big Boss Season 3.
Season 3 Look 1
We decided to try leather for the grand opening; the mafia look. The outfit was customised all black leather. Paired with vintage glasses and cango boots. “Sir has a huge collection of watches and is very specific about them. After every dress is worn we do a small photoshoot and he posses with such swag.” Says Amritha.
Look 2
For the second look he sports Shacket – which is a crossover of jacket and shirts. It is a very new trend that has been going around. The sleeved edge has regular cuffs.The other trend we’ve followed is tone on tone dressing. Which is wearing the same colour head to toe, maybe with a shade different. The fabric has lovely texture, which makes it very appealing on camera.
Look 3
Here I have used shoulder/sleeve suspenders which is a famous 90s’ trend. Kamal sir has already worn this style in his movie Aboorva Sagotharargal in a classic street style. This was customised by me. To add texture we did a corduroy shirt with brown shoulder suspenders paired with nice woven brown leather belt. Every MGR fan loved the look. A classic with just a tweak.
Look 4
Here he sports an asymmetric cut with cowl neck. The style is popular in US, UK, Europe. Here we adopted a cowl neck for an indo-western look. The fabric is very important here. We have used a cheese cotton blend. Kamal sir has wonderful knowledge on different types of fabric, he knows many costume hacks. The outfit was paired with Pattani sandals with opened toe and a watch on top of kurta sleeve.
Look 5
Olive hoodie was set, with beige knit jacket. He wears sporty sneakers with an olive strip watch.
“I was so glad that I got to work with him every week and I am also glad that the audience is welcoming new looks,” says an excited Amritha. Kamal has evidently been supportive of the ideas Amritha conceives but she truly believes that preparation and homework must always be done when it comes to Kamal’s styling needs. “I will have to be prepared to explain elaborately what the look of the day is all about. We have experimented patterns, colours, like peach-pink, and even different fabrics and accessories,” she notes.
