Soundarya Rajinikanth announced early this year that she is all set to produce the epic Ponniyin Selvan, a novel close to the hearts of the Tamilians and one of the favourite stories in Tamil literature. Collaborating with mxPlayer, Ponniyin Selvan will be shot as web series. Ponniyin Selvan is a five-part novel written by Kalki Krishnamoorthy.

This is Soundarya’s next project post Dhanush’ Velai Illa Pattadhari 2.

Soundarya took it to social media to announce the beginning of her work on the series. She tweeted, “Ponniyin Selvan – This is THE EPIC. I have to and want to do justice to it and do it right. In a press conference earlier, the director-turned-producer said, “A dream project !!! … so thrilled to announce that we at @May6Ent are proud to partner with @mxplayer in bringing to life the epic novel #PonniyinSelvan as an MX Original Series. god bless us !!!! Need all your support ! #OriginalWebSeries #DigitalFuture.”

The story is based on the Cholas, especially Arulmozhivarman, who later came to be known as Raja Raja Chola I. The series will be directed by Sooriyaprathap S.

The film of Ponniyin Selvan will be seen directed by Mani Ratnam and the team is yet to officially announce the cast.
