In what is being viewed as disturbing incident, a teenage boy set his father ablaze after he refused to give his son money to watch the recently released Ajith Kumar film Viswasam.

According to The Times of India, the father has been admitted to a hospital owing to his burn injuries. The teenager, named Ajith Kumar, is a construction worker and found his father, a daily wage labourer, sleeping. Demanding money to watch the film, Ajith’s father refused following which a quarrel took place.

It was then that Ajith poured kerosene on his father’s head and set him on fire. Other labourers who were sleeping nearby came to the older man’s rescue. He has since sustained burn injuries on his head, face, shoulders and back. All this took place in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore.

Children harming their parents over frivolous reasons have been peaking recently. A few months ago, a teenage boy in Delhi murdered his parents and sister as they used to bicker and quarrel a lot.

Viswasam released on Thursday, January 10, along side another big release, Petta. The film stars Ajith and Nayanthara, and marks his fourth collaboration with director Siva. The movie is said to be a family drama with a lot of flashback sequences.
