The petition calls for a ban on tweets and accounts which intimidate and silence women on twitter. Chinmayi mentions some of the threats that she has received on the social media. “You should be raped”, “I’ll throw acid on your face”, are just a few examples of such threats received by the singer.
If we really want to end these threats against women, then serious steps should be taken on the matter. Just celebrating International Women’s Day is not the point; standing up for what’s affecting the well being of many women is!
Responding to the petition, Chinmayi’s mother T. Padmhasini says, “We live in a cyber era and it’s important to protect our children. Social media security is most important and women should support each other’s views.”
More power to you Chinmayi and many other women who’re a part of this much needed fight. Click here to sign the petition.
