Tamil cinema’s most famous couple Kamal Haasan and Gautami Tadimalla have called it quits after living together for 13 years. Gautami, a cancer survivor, has a 17-year-old daughter, Subbalakshmi from her first marriage and has been living with Kamal since 2003. Kamal and Gautami have known each other since they did Apoorva Sagodharargal in 1989 and have always remained very close friends. She and Kamal have refused to marry each other, citing ‘lack of faith in marriage’ as the main reason. In the past, Haasan has called Gautami a progressive woman, who has never pressured him to marry her. A source close to the couple tells JFW that Gautami’s recent spat with Shruti Haasan was the last straw of their relationship. Gautami took to her blog to share the news of the break-up. Here is what she wrote: 

It is heartbreaking for me to have to say today that I and Mr. Haasan are no longer together. After almost 13 years together, it has been one of the most devastating decisions that I have ever had to make in my life. It is never easy for anyone in a committed relationship to realise that their paths have irreversibly diverged and that the only choices in front of them are to either compromise with their dreams for life or to accept the truth of their solitude and move ahead. It has taken me a very long time, a couple of years at the very least, to accept this heartbreaking truth and come to this decision.
