Women’s sports drama genre is increasing in Tamil cinema. It is one of the popular choices among the audience but there are not many movies to begin with. There are few movies which made its mark in this particular genre and here is a list of them.

Irudhi Suttru
Irudhi Suttru starring Madhavan and Ritika Singh was one of the first movies that made audiences more curious about this particular genre. Madhavan as boxing coach and Rithika as boxer aced their roles. Ezhil Madhi, the character Ritika portrays, is a fish vendor who is discovered to have a natural ability by her coach and is trained to become a professional boxer who goes on to win the World Boxing Championship.

Kanaa

Kanaa, starring Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead role, is about a girl’s dream to make it big in cricket. A father-daughter relationship is at its core it’s how the father supports her dream, no matter what. She picked up the sport because of her father’s passion for the sport and he is the only person who supports her throughout her journey in the sport. Even though he struggles with keeping up with her training for the sport he made sure, she made it in big and she and team India wins the WT20I World cup and she played a major part in the team’s victory.

Bigil

Bigil starring Vijay in the lead role, is a sports action drama film.Even though the main part of the movie revolves around Vijay as football player and him becoming a goon and his gang’s leader, the other part of the movie revolves around Tamil Nadu state team’s football players.The team eventually succeeds in the final of a national championship and the film highlights their training under Vijay. He strengthens the team by bringing back two former key players while also training the current members. And he also talks about how passion and profession is also important for Women.

Gatta Kusthi
Gatta Kusthi revolves around the life of newly married couple Keerthi ( Aishwarya Lekshmi) and Veera ( Vishnu Vishal), where Keerthi a professional wrestler and Veera brought up by his uncle as a male chauvinist. When he learns that she is a wrestler, they drift apart. This movie also highlights how respect, profession, passion is also important for women. The movie forms the rest of the story as Keerthi is keen on training and continuing as Professional wrestler and how Veera comes back as a better person.
