Mahanti the film is all set to release on March 30. This biopic on the life of yesteryear actress Savitri has been eagerly awaited for a while now. It has now been revealed that Naga Chaitanya will play the role of his own grandfather, the late Akkineni Nageswara Rao in the film. ANR acted in several films with Savitri like  Missamma, Engal Veettu Mahalakshmi, Navaratri and more. The two were also on friendly terms until her death in 1981.

Keerthy Suresh will be playing the role of Savitri and Dulquer Salmaan will play her husband Gemini Ganesh. The story of Savitri is to be narrated through the eyes of Samantha in Mahanati. Telugu actor Vijay Devarakonda will also be playing a crucial part in the movie. While nothing has been confirmed yet, talks are that to bring in Nivin Pauly as well for an important role in the movie.

The movie will be directed by the famous filmmaker Nag Ashwin, known for his movie, Yevade Subramanyam. According to the director, “There have been countless actresses over the last 80 years in Telugu cinema but none have earned the title of Mahanati, and even today it has solely been reserved for Savitri.”

The film is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and will be made simultaneously in both Telugu and Tamil. Mostly the movie will also be dubbed in Malayalam. Mahanati will go on the floors within this year.
