Samantha started her year by making a cameo appearance in Banglore Naatkal in February. Even though the film bombed, she was appreciated for her special performance. Next came the back to back highest grossing films of Kollywood, Theri and 24. Vijay’s Theri was released in April and broke all box office records. Samantha and Vijay’s chemistry was a hit and left the audience craving for more. Suriya’s 24, a sci-fi movie, also had Samantha play an important role. Then came the Telugu super hits, Aa..aa and recently released Janata Garage. Both the films have crossed 100 crores, while Janata Garage is still running to packed audience.
Samantha said she will not sign any new films this year. This, clubbed with her closeness to the Akkineni family led to wide spread rumors about her wedding to boyfriend, Naga Chaitanya. However, last month, Samantha signed her first movie of 2016, putting her wedding rumors to rest. Sources say, the couple are planning for a December 2017 wedding and that is the reason Samantha has started signing films again. Samantha will next be seen opposite Sivakarthikeyan in an yet to be titled film.
