Women activists allegedly attacked the prime accused, Bhaben Saikiya (27), who has been arrested for the murder of Rasila Raju, an employee at Infosys. Four activists belonging to the ‘Bhumata Ranragini Brigade’ including its President Trupti Desai, allegedly beat up the accused when he was being escorted out of Pune’s Shivajinagar court.

Bhaben, a security guard at Infosys, killed Rasila in a fit of anger and revenge as she scolded him for staring at her. She also warned him saying that she will file a complaint to the security officer if he misbehaves. Angered by her warning and reprimanding, Bhaben committed the crime.

An officer, at the Shivajinagar police station, told the media,”Desai and three other activists suddenly came and assaulted him. However, the policemen took him away swiftly.” He further added,”We have detained Desai and other three women. They will be released upon an admonition.”

While she was detained, Trupti spoke to the PTI over phone, about why they decided to assault the accused: “The Infosys incident has raised concerns about security of female employees. To punish elements like Saikiya, we today assaulted him.”

Meanwhile, in the memory of Rasila Raju OP, a solidarity march or a ‘safety walk’, led by Pune Police Commissioner Rashmi Shukla, took place at the Hinjewadi IT Park. Many IT professionals and citizens joined the march to express their grievance.
