Premam, 96, Bangalore Days and More, 9 Movie Remakes Which Turned Out To Be Disastrous!

Sometimes we hear about a great movie in another language and wonder how it will be in our own language. We feel that we will be able to understand it more and will be able to connect with the movies on a better level.

However, remakes hardly meet any expectations. Most of the times, remakes are just huge disappointments. They fail to impress anybody. Here are 6 remakes which should have never been made:

96

96 is directed by C. Premkumar, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha in lead roles won hearts. The couple’s chemistry was adored nation wide and the movie’s hit led it to be remade in two languages.  96 was remade in Kannada by Preetham Gubbi as 99 (2019), and in Telugu by C. Premkumar as Jaanu (2020). Both turned out to be very disappointing.

Premam (Telugu)

The original Malayalam movie Premam was a huge hit and ran for more than 100 days. In an attempt to remake it, Chandoo Mondeti made the movie in Telugu. The movie received a lot of negative comments. The simplicity and the freshness of the original cast could not be remade in the Telugu version.

Ek Deewana Tha (From Vinathaandi Varuvaya)

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya starring Simbu and Trisha was a huge success. The pair was cute and the whole movie made more sense in Tamil. Ek Deewana Tha is the remake of the Simbu-Trisha movie. The movie had Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson in the lead, who failed to meet expectations.

Wanted (From Pokkiri)

While the original film Pokkiri was a huge hit in both Telugu and Tamil, it did not create much hype in Hindi. Wanted starred Salman Khan and Asin in the lead. It was not liked at all.

OK Jaanu (From OK Kanmani)

‘OK Jaanu’ is the remake of the famous Mani Ratnam movie, OK Kanmani. The sweet chemistry between Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menon could not be brought about between Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. The remix of “Humma Humma” was extremely disappointing.

Holiday (From Thuppakki)

Holiday is the Hindi remake of Thupakki. It was an entirely different to watch a Tamil film set in the middle of Mumbai. However, Holiday could not satisfy the “different people in a new place” quota at all. It was just a same old Hindi film set in Mumbai.

 Bangalore Natkal (From Bangalore Days)

The Tamil remake of the famous Malayalam movie Bangalore Days was a huge failure. What the original cast could manage was not easy for the Tamil cast. Nobody could bear the replacement of Bobby Simha for the role played originally by Nivin Pauly.

Kanden Kaadhalai

An un-tasteful remake of the Bollywood hit movie Jab we met, starring Bharath and Tamannah.
