Ponniyin Selvan: Here’s what Karthi said at the first single release!

Jayam Ravi and Jayaram were also there!

The first single from Mani Ratnam’s Magnum Opus Ponniyin Selvan was released yesterday. The grand event took place at the Express Avenue mall, where Karthi, Jayam Ravi and Jayaram graced the occasion and released the single at 6 pm amidst fans. Titled ‘Ponni Nathi’  is said to be the start of Vallavarayan Vanthiya Thevan’s journey along the Veeranarayana Eri (lake) on the auspicious occasion of Aadi Perukku (18th day of Aadi). This is how the story starts in the book as well.

At the release, Karthi shared that the veteran director Mani Ratnam had finished both parts of the film’s shoot in just 120 days. He also said, “Working on this film has been like a dream.” Karthi began his speech with his famous lines, “Enna mama sowkiyama.” On the other hand, during his speech at the grand launch event today, Jayam Ravi said, “Tamil Makkal have a good cinema sense to appreciate even a good shot. This is something very unique about our audience.”

Jayam Ravi also shared that Karthi helped him learn to ride a horse for the film. Jayaram, who was also present, then said, “”Ponniyin Selvan is a novel that is deeply embedded in the hearts and minds of every Tamilian who has read it. I’m delighted to be a part of this creation.”

Ponniyin Selvan is originally a Tamil novel based on the life of Raja Raja Chola, written by Kalki. While there have been several attempts in the past to make it as a film, Mani Ratnam has now started this project, which will be released in two parts. Starring Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sarathkumar in lead roles, this is considered to be Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus.   Jayam Ravi is said to play Arun Mozhi Varman, while Trisha is said to play his sister Kundavai. Karthi will be seen as Vanthiya Thevan, while Aishwarya Rai will be Nandini. Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Lal and Kishore will be playing prominent roles. The film is bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies. The music director for the movie is AR Rahman.  PS-1 is slated for a worldwide release on September 30, 2022, in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
